Podcasts are a great way to deepen your knowledge of a particular subject. As someone who’s invested in my personal health and fitness, I’m always looking for ways to improve and sharpen my workouts and nutrition to see the results I’m looking for and reach the goals I have set for myself. I find that podcasts are one of the best ways to do this because there are millions of minutes worth of valuable information packed into free episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other platforms. Here are my top three health-, fitness-, and mindset-related podcasts to listen to when I’m on a walk, driving, or even sometimes in place of music while I’m in the gym working out.
This podcast is hosted by Dr. Andrew Huberman, a neuroscientist and professor at Stanford University, where his research lab is located. As he says in the intro to each episode, this podcast discusses “science and science-based tools for everyday life.” Every week, Dr. Huberman dives into a specific topic affecting the human condition, all backed by his own research in the lab as well as evidence drawn from other credible studies. What I love about this podcast is how it takes a very complicated, in-depth science and breaks it down for the common listener to be able to digest and implement into their own life. As an example of the topics covered, my favorite episode thus far is #101. Using Caffeine to Optimize Mental & Physical Performance. The episodes are fairly long, often over two hours, but I don’t mind listening in smaller increments during my daily walks or driving commutes.
This one is an interview-style podcast hosted by Dr. Michael Gervais, a high-performance psychologist who has worked with many Fortune 500 companies, the Seattle Seahawks, and Team USA. Episodes released each week feature a conversation with people who are successful in their field of expertise or boast a unique life story. Past guests of the pod include former Navy SEAL Command Master Cheif, Pete Naschak, Olympic speedskater, Apollo Ohno, and head coach of the Golden State Warriors, Steve Kerr. Each of them have special life experiences that left them with knowledge and wisdom to share with the world, and Dr, Gervais guides the conversation to reveal those bits of applicable advice for listeners to take charge and make the most out of their own life. It all starts in the brain, and Dr. Mickael Gervais's mantra with this podcast is “If you want to change your life, it starts with changing your mind.”
This one is a little more lighthearted and conversational than the other two, hosted by three fitness experts with experience as personal trainers and bodybuilders: Sal Di Stefano, Adam Schafer, and Justin Andrews. With each episode, they begin by catching up with each other and their notable life updates, then dive into various health, fitness, and nutrition topics. They cover a wide range of information, but much of their content has a focus on building muscle and honing nutrition to do so.
